Entry requirements

To be admitted to the course, you must be enrolled in a doctoral programme. External doctoral students may participate in IBL’s doctoral courses subject to availability. After registration, the course coordinator will decide if there is space.

External doctoral students must also submit a certificate to forskningsadministration@ibl.liu.se showing that they are enrolled in a doctoral programme.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the doctoral student will be able to:

  • describe and analyse various perspectives and theories of learning
  • compare and critically examine different perspectives and theories of learning
  • apply perspectives and theories of learning to specific problems and contexts

Contents

The course covers various concepts and theoretical perspectives on learning. The focus is on behaviourist, cognitive, and socio-cultural perspectives on learning, based on theories and current research. Throughout the course, the doctoral student applies learning theories to their own chosen problems and contexts.

Educational methods

Educational methods applied in this course consists of lectures and seminars. The doctoral student is expected to actively participate in the seminars.

Examination

Written examination through a report where the doctoral student applies perspectives and theories of learning covered during the course. Attendance at a minimum of four out of five course sessions is required to pass the course. An individual assignment is required in case of absence.
