Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

Identify and discuss similarities and differences between different theoretical traditions in feminism and gender studies in relation to educational research.

Competence and skills

Analyse data from an educational setting using feminist or gender theory.

Reflect critically on feminist and gender methodology, with a specific focus on research design.

Judgement and approach

Reflect critically on a range of literature, particularly in relation to their own research topic and key contemporary theoretical debates.

Contents

An overview of feminist and gender research in the educational field.

Educational methods

Seminars and lectures. Participants will be given research papers which will be required reading before seminars/lectures.

Examination

The course is examined via papers and presentations relating to the themes of the seminars. Participants are expected to actively participate in the discussions during the seminars.

Students who fail are offered one re-examination occasion in close connection to the course. After that, participation in a coming course examination is offered. The re-examination should be equally comprehensive as the ordinary examination.

Grades are Pass or Fail.

General information

The course is planned and carried out according to what is stated in this syllabus. Course evaluation, analysis and suggestions for improvement should be fed back to the Research and PhD studies Committee (FUN) by the course coordinator.

If the course is withdrawn or is subject to major changes, examination according to this syllabus is normally offered at three occasions within/in close connection to the two following semesters.
