Specific information

PhD students who use qualitative methods in their research and wish to deepen their understanding of analytical strategies and application.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the doctoral student should be able to:

  • Apply various strategies for qualitative data analysis to their own data
  • Reflect on the researcher’s role and influence in the analysis process
  • Discuss and justify the choice of analytical method based on research question and data type
  • Assess quality and trustworthiness in qualitative analysis
  • Present analytical results in a transparent and scholarly manner

Contents

The course aims to deepen doctoral students’ knowledge and practical skills in qualitative data analysis. It focuses on developing the ability to analyze complex qualitative data using various analytical strategies such as thematic analysis, grounded theory, discourse analysis, and narrative analysis. Reflexivity, researcher positionality, ethics, and quality criteria in analysis are also addressed.

Educational methods

The course consists of seminars, workshops, and individual supervision. Participants work with their own data and receive feedback from instructors and peers.

Examination

  • Active participation in seminars
  • Written assignments related to each session
  • Final assignment: analysis of own data with methodological reflection
  • Mini-review of another participant’s work (500–800 words)
  • Presentation and discussion at the final session
