Behörighetskrav

Grundläggande behörighet till kurser på forskarutbildningsnivå har den som har

• avlagt en examen på avancerad nivå,
• fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng (hp), varav minst 60 hp på avancerad nivå, eller
• på något annat sätt förvärvat motsvarande kunskaper.

Lärandemål

The course is an introduction to several key qualitative methods in generating empirical material. The participants will familiarize themselves theoretically with a selection of qualitative methods and will apply them through practical exercises. The course is designed to provide ample opportunities for reflection and discussion of perspectives, theories and methods in qualitative research.

On completion of the course, the PhD candidate will be able to:

• describe and discuss key qualitative empirical methods;
• assess and review a variation of qualitative empirical research methods in their own and others’ work; and
• evaluate strengths and weaknesses of these methods.

Kursinnehåll

Undervisnings- och arbetsformer

The course consists of lectures, seminars, and practical exercises.

Examination

The examination consists of the following components:

• Active participation in all course sessions
• Completion of all practical exercises
• Completion of a review assignment
• Completion of a final examination assignment.

The course literature consists of scientific articles and book chapters. The literature list is required preparatory reading, unless otherwise indicated.
