The course introduces PhD students to postcolonial and decolonial feminisms. These strands are regarded vis-à-vis other areas of research in gender studies as well as the broader postcolonial and decolonial investigations.
It offers an overview of the core questions, problems, debates, and concepts* *important for decolonial feminist theorizing today.
It also focuses on the main methodological and theoretical issues of the area. The course is based on the major theoretical and methodological texts, films, fiction, and art.
The course is given during week 35-40, 2024.

Entry requirements
Entry requirement for studies on third-cycle education courses
- second-cycle degree in social sciences or humanities or equivalent,
- English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English 6/B)

After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:

- Reflect on the origins, development and current state of postcolonial and decolonial feminisms
- Explain different theoretical and methodological approaches in postcolonial and decolonial feminisms
Skills and Abilities
- Critically examine advantages and limitations of postcolonial and decolonial feminisms against the broader gender studies field and other humanities and social sciences
- Problematize research policy contexts for postcolonial and decolonial feminisms
evaluation ability and approach
- Critically reflect on and situate your thesis work in relation to various postcolonial and decolonial feminist research environments
Contents
The course introduces PhD students to postcolonial and decolonial feminisms. These strands are regarded vis-à-vis other areas of research in gender studies as well as the broader postcolonial and decolonial investigations.
It offers an overview of the core questions, problems, debates, and concepts* *important for decolonial feminist theorizing today.

Educational methods
Educational methods applied in this course include lectures and seminars.
Examination
Examination consists of the individual written course paper, grading: EC (7 ECTS)
Active participation in seminars through general discussion and presentation and presenting the draft of the future course paper at the course conference, grading: pass/fail (3 ECTS)
Students who fail are offered one re-examination occasion in close connection to the course. After that participation in a coming course examination is offered. The re-examination should be equally comprehensive as the ordinary examination.
Change of examiner
Students who have failed the course or part of the course twice are entitled to request another examiner for the following examination occasion.

General information
The course is planned and carried out according to what is stated in this syllabus. Course evaluation, analysis and suggestions for improvement should be fed back to the Research and PhD studies Committee (FUK) by the course coordinator.
If the course is withdrawn or is subject to major changes, examination according to this syllabus is normally offered at three occasions within/in close connection to the two following semesters.
