Description

The course is an advanced introduction to the main themes in sociological theory from 1945 to the present. The course is intended to fulfill theoretical requirements for the doctoral program in analytical sociology and to provide theoretical deepening within other doctoral programmes.

The course will examine theoretical themes in sociology of relevance to empirical research, including models of social action (e.g. rational choice theory, symbolic interactionism, habit theories) and social structure (e.g. stratification systems, social networks, cultural sociology, institutionalism, field theories).
