Description

The overall aim of the course is to provide advanced knowledge about seven areas of psychology: cognitive, biological, neuropsychological, developmental, emotional, social and clinical psychology. Knowledge in each area about the research front as well as historical background will be included and participants will also get an orientation regarding the main research tools in each part of psychology.


This course is offered autumn 2026, 2027 and 2028.

Registration as doctoral student or master student.

Learning outcomes

After course completion participants are expected to:

  • Have developed deeper knowledge regarding theory, method and empirical findings within psychology.
  • Describe and problematise the concepts used in the different areas of psychology.
  • Analyze and differentiate between different methodological approaches within psychology.
  • Identify critical aspects in the history of psychology
  • Being able to understand and apply resarch findings within the different fields of psychology.

Contents

The course will cover the history and development of psychology and will also include current debates in research. As psychology is characterised by a wide range of research methods (e.g., various quantitative and qualitative approaches) there will be an emphasis on the understanding and interpretation of research findings including their historical background. Ethical aspects will be covered.

Educational methods

Seminars and lectures. Participants will be given recommended research papers which will be required reading *before *seminars/lectures.

Examination

The course is examined via papers and presentations relating to the themes of the seminars. Participants are expected to be active during the seminars.

The grades are Approved and Not approved.

Most of the literature will be in the form of peer-reviewed research papers in international journals and modern textbooks.
